Daylight Savings Time 2012

Posted: 11 Mar 2012 12:34 AM PST

Time again to give one hour of sleep on Sunday. Why in the world is we doing this? Blame the Germans, who started the trend of daylight saving time during World War I to conserve coal. But the idea is much older? Ancient Romans used a water clock that varies at different times of year depending on the season and available light. People adjust quite easily when traveling time zone, but experts say daylight saving time can be more difficult, as opposed to our body's internal clock and how we react to light for about the changing seasons. There are some things we can do to minimize man-made disturbances, such as get some sunlight in the morning on Saturday and Sunday, avoiding sunlight in the afternoon, Sunday and Monday, and take a low dose of melatonin during the weekend. We can even push our bed times by 10 to 15 minutes ahead of this weekend's Sunday morning.

Daylight Saving Time (DST) is not felt in Indonesia, because the term was never used in this country. The term usually applies in the countries that have summer and winter. Daylight Saving Time (DST) was first proposed by New Zealand, namely George Vernnon Hudson, an entomologist in 1895. Since then, many States are using it with a period of time varies according to location and the provisions in force in a country like America, standardize Daylight Saving Time was made in 1966 by Act of Congress with the Unification of Time (Uniform Time Act), whereas in Europe, the European Union makes the standardization of the European Summer Time.

The time change was made in line with the reduced time of day when it enters the winter. If in summer, during the day is much longer than the night (can be reached 16 hours), then in winter the sun shines a maximum of 10 hours. This can happen because European countries are geographically located to the north of the equator, where sunlight is shining on this area is not evenly each day throughout the year. This is in contrast to countries such as Indonesia is located on the equator which can receive sunlight evenly over 12 hours each day throughout the year. To adapt to climate change, then the experts 'time marker' in Europe and America (which is also experiencing the same problem) agreed to make changes at as much as two times a year, which is now entering the summer and going into winter. Towards the summer or exactly when spring arrives (every last Sunday of March), at an accelerated time 1 hour markers. Conversely when entering winter (every last Sunday of October), a marker at one hour of time is slowed.

In 2010 Daylight Saving Time (DST) to the U.S. starting on Sunday 14th March to Sunday the 7th of November, while the European countries started on Sunday 28 March to Sunday 31 October.
