As patients, we just give up entirely to the doctor's treatment of actions to be performed. Too often doctors do not have a dialogue with the patient regarding the patient's medical history. This can result in things that are not desirable. One of them is allergic to certain drugs which resulted in Stephen Johnson syndrome. Stephen Johnson syndrome is an allergic reaction to medication or a viral or bacterial. SJS is caused sores on the skin especially on the lower limbs, mouth, intestines, corneas, genital and urinary tract. These symptoms are usually accompanied by high fever. Drugs that can cause SJS include: anti-seizure drugs (such as phenobarbitol), sulfonamide or sulfa drugs, non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, including antibiotics (eg, amoxicillin, and tertracyclin). Reaction caused by the use of these drugs usually occurs within the first 2 weeks after using the drug. Eyes will be swollen, followed by sores in the mouth and lips. Patients will have a fever and rash. Many patients and physicians are not aware that these are symptoms of SJS. Sometimes patients find that they are exposed to the common cold. In fact, doctors often diagnose patients exposed to smallpox. Treatment can be done to overcome the SJS is to discontinue use of the drug that causes the syndrome. According to some experts, SJS can be treated with steroids. Because the skin suffers an injury and inflammation, treatment usually is done is a treatment for patients affected by burns. Patients are also given an intravenous infusion of fluids to avoid dehydration. Although SJS is an acute reaction to get rid of less than one month, but the effect can result in permanent damage. Approximately 15 -20% of patients with SJS who suffered eye damage, can be overcome with the scleral lens, (scleral organ is one of the eye). In addition, a patient with SJS is also advisable to use sun protection cream (sunscreen), because they are highly susceptible to skin cancer. To restore the immune system damaged by SJS, in the form of supplemental vitamin A, B, C, B complex, zinc is needed. Vitamin A is essential for the eyes and mucous membranes SJS can indeed lead to fatal consequences. But still there is hope. Advised everyone to be careful to consume drugs. If you have previously experienced an allergic reaction caused by certain drugs, although a mild allergy, you should avoid taking the drug and tell your doctor.  |
